Creating Inspired Pieces

We believe without exception that it's vital that each piece be a true and absolute expression of the uniqueness and beauty of each piece of wood.

Inspiration

Our projects often find us when strolling through mills, construction sites or looking for trees that have fallen from rot. This is much different from the normal approach a traditional furniture builder takes.

They would design a desk or table, create a drawing and go to a mill to select the wood for the project. They would then remove the most amazing part of the slab; "The Live Edge". This is the natural outside edge under the bark.

When we begin the process of creating a piece, we never know what we're going to create until we find that perfect piece of wood.

As odd as it may seem, the wood often calls to us to be a table, desk, or a beautiful hanging wall piece. Size, style, color, and function are always dictated by the raw material. The subtle use of L.E.D. lighting allows us to emulate a moon lit river. This makes the center of the table to be the focal point.

Our slabs are often very large and unique. Having the right tools to create highly detailed and complicated works are a vital part of the process.

From our model "1955" Dewalt 16" radial arm saw to our hand-held chip driven domino jointer and our hundreds of other hand tools, we create one of a kind pieces the correct way.

The Journey

From conception to the first cut, every detail is calculated to maximize the beauty of the wood. We never forget to make our pieces functional in every way. We install hidden drawers, trays and pullouts.

Don't let the frail appearances of our of our pieces fool you, we often joke about them doubling as scaffolding or work platforms. These woods are among the hardest on the planet and we use sophisticated and jointing techniques.

Our visions create unique challenges for anchoring and supporting pieces and require the use of steel as brackets or legs.

After the dust settles, the glue dries, and the countless hours of sanding are complete, we finish each piece with the finest crystal clear finishes available.

We then install the dimmable LED lighting, the custom crushed glass, and finally the high impact acrylic glass. After each piece is finished, it's named and given a unique serial number.
